About Our Speakers

Mary Kate Cunningham, CAE, Senior Vice President of Public Policy, American Society of Association Executives (ASAE)

In Mary Kate's role at ASAE, she oversees federal, state and local advocacy efforts on behalf of 50,000 trade association, professional society and industry partner members. Cunningham oversees ASAE’s Political Action Committee (APAC) and The Power of A program. Prior to this role, Cunningham worked for the House Armed Services Committee in the Communications Office and the Seapower Subcommittee. She is also a member of the Tax Coalition and served as the co-chair of the Issues Forum. In 2019 she was named a Leading Association Lobbyist by Association Trends. In 2013 she received the "Up and Coming Practitioner" award from the Professional Women in Advocacy Conference. From 2014-2016 she served as the Director of Communications for No Exceptions, an initiative of the Truman Project and Center for National Policy, a non-partisan nationwide coalition of post-9/11 generation military veterans and national security leaders who support a military-wide policy of full combat inclusion. Cunningham earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation from ASAE in 2017. Cunningham graduated with a Master’s degree in Strategic Security Studies from the National Defense University. She received her bachelor’s degree from The Catholic University of America where she studied Political Science.

 Jason Brandt, President & CEO, Oregon Restaurant & Lodging Association

Jason's expertise revolves around association management and government affairs work at the state and local levels. His vision for the hospitality industry is to continue to build upon the significant tourism growth Oregon has seen over the past decade by helping lead advocacy, communication, and education efforts for restaurants and lodging establishments. Prior to joining ORLA as President & CEO in 2015, Jason served as the CEO of the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a minor in Communication from Pacific Lutheran University. He received a post-graduate certification in Nonprofit Organizational Management from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute Program.

Sandra McDonough, President & CEO, Oregon Business & Industry

Sandra joined OBI in October 2018. Previously, she served 14 years as the president and CEO of the Portland Business Alliance, which under her leadership, became the Portland-metro area’s most prominent and impactful business organization. Earlier, she spent two decades in the energy industry, holding executive-level positions at PG&E Corporation and PacifiCorp. She also worked for a decade as a newspaper reporter, with stints at The Oregonian and the Seattle Times. McDonough holds bachelor’s degrees in German and journalism from the University of Oregon, and she has extensive experience serving on nonprofit boards.

Jeff Stone, Executive Director, Oregon Association of Nurseries

Jeff is an experienced Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer with a demonstrated history in non-profit and public organizational management. He is a strong business development professional, skilled in Nonprofit Organizations, Budgeting, Politics, Coalition Building and Strategic Planning

 Matthew D. Lowe, Shareholder, Jordan Ramis PC Attorneys at Law

Matthew focuses his practice on corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, contracts, and state and federal taxation for both profit and nonprofit organizations. He is recognized as a leader throughout the Pacific Northwest in the representation of public charter schools, including representing their interests in charter applications, negotiations, operational issues, facility issues, employment issues, education law, public contracting, and public meetings and records law. 

Amy Barker, CEO/Co-Founder, Stayker 

After over 30 years in the hospitality industry, Amy started back when client relationships were what mattered most, revenue was important but long-term clients were valued more. Operating in perhaps the toughest travel market in history her company grew to represent some of the biggest events in sports. They've contracted and managed travel from elite teams to fans for hundreds of thousands of customers and developed their own booking technology along the way. Amy is excited to share this technology and take the business of combining hospitality and technology to the next level.
Adam Harris, CIC, Vice President, LaPorte and Associates
